Glaucoma screening & monitoring
Glaucoma steals peripheral vision silently — often with no symptoms until advanced. Field testing is the essential tool for early detection and monitoring.
Visual field testing
Visual field testing maps your entire field of vision — detecting blind spots, peripheral loss, and early signs of glaucoma, retinal disease, and neurological conditions before symptoms appear.
Why it matters
A visual field test measures the full extent of what you can see — straight ahead and peripherally — giving Dr. Tran critical information about your optic nerve, retina, and visual pathways.
Glaucoma steals peripheral vision silently — often with no symptoms until advanced. Field testing is the essential tool for early detection and monitoring.
Detachments, macular degeneration, and other conditions create specific field-loss patterns that guide diagnosis and treatment.
Brain tumors, strokes, and MS produce characteristic visual field defects — eye testing is often the first step in identifying them.
Some medications — including hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) — can damage the retina over time. Regular field tests monitor for toxicity.
Adequate peripheral vision is essential for safe driving. Testing can assess whether visual requirements are met.
Results are mapped and compared over time — showing clearly whether a condition is stable, improving, or progressing.
The experience
One eye at a time, you'll look at a central fixation point while brief lights flash across your visual field.
Each time you see a flash, you press a button. The device maps your complete field — including any areas of reduced sensitivity.
Results are analyzed immediately. Dr. Tran walks you through your visual field map and what — if anything — needs to happen next.
Meet your doctor
As a glaucoma specialist, Dr. Tran reads visual fields with the training the test deserves — and explains your results in plain language, the same day.
What our patients say

Common questions
Just a few minutes per eye — most visits are in and out well under half an hour, including the review of your results.
Not at all. Nothing touches your eye; you simply watch for lights and click a button. Our headset-based virtual testing is far more comfortable than the old dome machines.
Anyone with glaucoma or glaucoma risk, a family history, certain medications like Plaquenil, unexplained headaches or vision changes, or neurological concerns.
For monitoring glaucoma or medication toxicity, typically every 6–12 months — Dr. Tran will set the right cadence for your situation.
When medically indicated, visual field testing is generally covered by medical insurance. We verify benefits before your visit.
