Know the difference

Stye vs. chalazion —
what’s on your eyelid?

A stye

A bacterial infection of the eyelid glands near the lash line — a painful, red bump similar to a small pimple. It comes on quickly and feels tender or sore.

A chalazion

A blocked, inflamed Meibomian gland. It grows slowly, hurts less than a stye, but can become large enough to press on the eye and blur vision.

The common thread

Both involve the Meibomian glands — the oil glands inside your eyelids. When they malfunction, chalazions and styes are one of the first signs of a bigger underlying issue.

Our approach

Treating the cause,
not just the lump.

Controlled thermal heating plus expert gland expression resolves chalazions and persistent styes — and helps prevent them from coming back.

Controlled thermal heating

Precise, controlled heat softens the hardened, blocked oils inside the Meibomian glands — breaking down the blockage that caused the chalazion or stye to form.

Meibomian gland expression

Expert manual expression expels the obstructed oils — restoring proper gland function and promoting natural tear production with the antibodies needed to fight future infection.

Common questions

Answers, upfront.

Should I try to pop it at home?

Please don't — squeezing can push infection deeper, scar the lid, and make professional treatment harder. Warm compresses are safe; anything more belongs in the office.

How fast can I be seen?

We hold same-week appointments for new and existing patients — call and we'll get you in quickly, because early treatment is easier treatment.

Does the treatment hurt?

No. The thermal heating is warm and gentle, and gland expression is brief pressure — most patients describe it as relieving rather than painful.

Why do my styes keep coming back?

Recurring styes almost always signal underlying Meibomian gland dysfunction or blepharitis. That's why we treat the glands — not just the bump.

When would I need a specialist referral?

Very large or long-standing chalazions occasionally need minor surgical drainage. If that's your situation, Dr. Tran will tell you plainly and refer you to the right specialist.

Don't let it keep
getting worse.

Chalazions and styes are highly treatable — especially early. Same-week appointments available.
